Based in Athens, Greece, Dreadbox has officially been releasing tools for sound designers since 2016. What started out as a synthesizer endeavor, has since 2019 branched out into also being one of the most interesting upcoming effects pedal companies out there. The lush chorus/flanger tones of the Komorebi kicked off their effects pedal journey, and since then they’ve gone from stompbox strength to strength.
With significant releases like the cinematic Darkness Stereo Reverb, tonal swiss army knife Kinematic Filter/Compressor, ferociously heavy Disorder Oscillating Fuzz, versatile wave-maker Treminator Tremolo, sweepingly surreal Lethargy Phaser and the dreamy Raindrops Stereo Delay, Dreadbox perfectly bring the synth vocabulary into the world of guitar with their rich textural tones, and unique multi-functional CV I/Os.
“It’s always a good start, when a pedal’s design draws you in, and that’s exactly what happened the first time I laid my eyes on the Dreadbox Lethargy phaser. It looked like something that had been unearthed from an obscure Japanese underground music shop in the 1980s. It just looked unlike anything else on the market, and simply oozed pure FUN! That’s what you’ll get with Dreadbox, great tones that span the spectrum from known to the deep synthetically unknown, and hours upon hours of real unfiltered fun.”
