Source Audio VERTIGO Tremolo

Advanced Stereo Tremolo

Discover the true spiraling and hypnotic potential of advanced stereo tremolo. The VERTIGO Tremolo offers three distinct tremolo effects and takes the tonal possibilities a step further with its Shape knob, which allows users to morph the LFO wave shape from square, to sine or opto, to saw tooth.

Main Features

  • Tremolo effects pedal
  • 3 flavors of Tremolo
    • Normal (Optical): some of the earliest incarnations of tremolo from the 60s
    • Harmonic: recreates a unique circuit included in some “brownface” amps made between 1959 and 1963 that alternately modulates the levels of the bass and treble bands in the audio signal – very pleasing and complex tremolo reminiscent of phaser tones
    • Bias: emulates modulating the bias voltage of the tubes in an amplifier pushing them in and out of saturation – warm pulsing sound with mild distortion created by the tube saturation
  • 3 different wave shapes that can be morphed through seamlessly
    • Square
    • Opto / Sine
    • Saw Tooth
  • 128 presets accessible via MIDI
  • Deep customization features accessible via Source Audio Neuro App and Desktop Editor
  • Stereo Inputs and outputs – for multiple advanced routing options
  • Mini USB Port for PC connectivity (Windows and Mac compatible) and remote control
  • 3.5 mm control port – for connecting compatible Source Audio control devices
  • Selectable Relay True or Buffered Bypass Switching
  • Included 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm TRS cable to connect to mobile device
  • Powered by (included) 9V DC power supply(2.1 mm plug, center -, 165 mA current draw)

The VERTIGO includes three basic effect types, with more effects available in the Neuro mobile app.

  • Normal (Optical): Optical tremolo emulates some of the earliest incarnations of tremolo from the 60s, which relied upon a neon light bulb and a photoresistor to create the effect. An LFO controlled the brightness of the neon light, and the light that was picked up by the photo-sensitive resistor changes the output gain. The nonlinear aspects of the light and the photoresistor give the optical tremolo its distinct character. The VERTIGO’s optical tremolo was inspired by a 1967 Fender Vibrolux®, which Bob Chidlaw uses in his office to test sounds while he is creating our effects library.
  • Harmonic: Harmonic tremolo recreates a unique circuit included in some “brownface” amps made between 1959 and 1963, which alternately modulated the levels of the bass and treble bands in the audio signal. The result is a very pleasing and complex tremolo that is has some characteristics reminiscent of a phaser.
  • Bias: Bias tremolo is an approach to tremolo that involves modulating the bias voltage of the tubes in an amplifier. This essentially pushes the tubes in and out of saturation, which creates a warm pulsing sound. As a result of the mild distortion created by the tube saturation, bias tremolo sounds pleasingly dirty.

Additional effect types can be loaded into the VERTIGO using the Neuro App on your mobile device (iOS and Android).

Out of the box, the VERTIGO Tremolo offers tremendous tonal range, but beneath the surface resides a treasure chest of swirling effect possibilities. Connect the VERTIGO to the Neuro Mobile App (a free download for Android or iOS devices) and access Source Audio’s free library of progressive tremolo patterns and hybrid modulation effects – each can be uploaded directly to the pedal. The Neuro App also offers an additional set of adjustable parameters including parametric EQ, wet/dry mix, tap tempo, and stereo separation. Plus, every One Series pedal is fully MIDI compatible when coupled with the Neuro Hub (formerly Soundblox Hub), giving you the power to save up to 128 presets.

Job one in the development of the VERTIGO Tremolo was to create a great sounding, flexible, and easy-to-use tremolo pedal. Out of the box, that’s exactly what it is – plug in, select from the three onboard tremolo engines and make beautiful music… simple. But there is much more here than meets the eye – the truly “Big Idea” behind our One Series pedals was to give musicians a second, far deeper, set of options and editing tools with which to craft the perfect tone. The Neuro Mobile App is a free download for iOS and Android. It offers a huge collection of unique and hybrid tremolo engines as well as an expanded set of editing parameters. After editing your preset, burn it directly to the pedal and access it without reconnecting the Neuro App.
