Modulation
Modulation is the magic sonic sauce. It brings movement and dimension to your sound and can take a riff from meh to magical in seconds. The Police definitely wouldn’t have been the same without Andy Summer’s iconic use of Flanger, and Jonny Greenwood’s use of Phaser really lifted Radiohead’s seminal album “Ok Computer” to the astral plane, and chorus… well, would the 80s even have existed without chorus? So whether you want to define your signature sound or just want moments to stand out with character then consider adding some modulation like chorus, vibrato, tremolo, phaser, rotary or flanger to your arsenal.
